Realtors Plan Groundbreaking for 2nd Habitat House
Event in Shepherd Park on April 14 at Noon
Irby Park
posted April 9, 2005

Chattanooga Association of Realtors (CAR) will break ground next Thursday, April 14, for its second Habitat House to be built in the Shepherd Park community.

The festivities at 5820 Patrick Place are scheduled for noon.

In announcing plans to build their second Habitat house, Realtors said providing a home for a deserving family through Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga “is a most rewarding experience.”

Realtors last summer launched a campaign to raise money to build their first Habitat house and at their July luncheon meeting raised $112,000, enough for two Habitat houses and substantial start on funding a third. The association had started out to raise $45,000, the approximate cost of a Habitat house.

Jason Farmer, who chaired the fundraising effort, said, “I’m unbelievably proud of what we did” and added that the most satisfying thing is giving deserving families an opportunity to experience home ownership.

Last year, said Kathy Tucker, who was president of the association when the first house was built, CAR members raised the money and provided the volunteer labor for the construction of the home.

Realtors again will be providing the labor for construction of the house to be built this year.

Gail Pollock, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga, after last year’s fundraising luncheon, said, “I have never seen an outpouring of love and generosity like I witnessed at the luncheon.”

She described the partnership with the Realtors as groundbreaking as the two organizations continue to work together to provide homes for deserving families who could not otherwise afford them.
