Last Day At The Town And Country posted June 30, 2005 Thursday was the final day at the landmark Town and Country Restaurant in North Chattanooga. The restaurant, which has been serving meals since 1947, will be torn down to make way for a new Walgreens Drug Store. There was no announcement about the last day of service, but restaurant employees confirmed it was the end. There was no special celebration to mark the close of the popular eatery. Owner Bill Hall said the move was a family financial decision. The North Shore Design Review Committee recently approved plans for the new $2 million Walgreens. It will have a design in keeping with the historic district. Some North Chattanooga residents said they would like to see the familiar Town and Country sign remain at the corner of Frazier and N. Market. |
