Apartment Fire Leaves Family Homeless posted July 1, 2005 An apartment fire left a Chattanooga family homeless on Friday afternoon. Fire companies with the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to 503 Fisher Ave. on the reported apartment fire just after 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews including Engine 5, Engine 4, Engine 15, and Ladder 5, found an apartment with heavy smoke coming from a second story window. Firefighters immediately pulled an attack line and advanced into the burning structure. The fire was under control in a matter of minutes, but the damage had already been done to the resident’s home and belongings. The property loss is estimated at $25,000, and the contents loss is estimated at $10,000. There were several children at home when the fire started, but no one was injured. Kim Griffin, 33, is the resident of the home, along with the four children, but she was not present at the time of the fire. The cause appears to have been an electrical malfunction in a wall outlet. The Red Cross has been called and is assisting the family at this time with clothing, food and temporary housing. |
