Lookout Mountain Home Suffers Extensive Fire Damage
posted July 5, 2005

A landmark Lookout Mountain, Tn., home suffered extensive damage in a fire Tuesday morning.

Officials said fire broke out about 10 a.m. in a home on Stephenson Road owned by Thorpe and Frances McKenzie. It took about an hour to extinguish the blaze that apparently started when workmen were stripping coats of paint from the woodwork. Some of the dry wood caught fire and ignited a blaze in the attic.

It took about an hour to extinguish the flames, that sent holes through the ceiling of the house that was built in 1942 by Krystal co-founder Rody Davenport.

Mrs. McKenzie said she was in the kitchen when the fire started, and she was able to get some valuables, including books, paintings and furniture, out of the residence.

Damage was estimated at up to $500,000.
