Bradley Man Tells Officers He Is Stealing Lumber posted July 13, 2005 Just after 2 a.m. Wednesday morning officers were sent to a new residential development on Chatata Valley Road following calls lumber was being taken from one of the building sites. Arriving at the scene they found George A. Jones, 35, of East Ridge sitting on the tailgate of a vehicle that was backed into the driveway. The arrest report says when Jones was asked what he was doing he replied "stealing lumber." Fifty pieces of lumber valued in excess of $500 were found in the back of the vehicle. He was charged with attempted theft over $500 and told officers he realized the idea of stealing was stupid because he was thinking "what if the cops pull up." The victim of an aggravated assault was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center after he was shot in the leg Tuesday night. Bradley County Deputies were called to the 300 block of Candies Creek Road in the southern part of Bradley County where Steve Swafford, 38, had been involved in a dispute with his alleged assailant. The weapon used to inflict the injury was recovered. Jimmy Bonine, 49, of 341 Candies Creek Road, was charged with aggravated assault. Wednesday morning the county's volunteer fire department responded to a residence in the 5500 block of Blue Springs Road. The blaze appears to have started on the lowest level of the two-story structure but the cause has not been determined. |
