Two former chief deputies to Sheriff John Cupp are starting up their campaigns for the sheriff election next year.
Andy Derryberry and Dave Alverson have both named campaign treasurers, meaning they can start collecting campaign funds.
Sheriff Cupp has not yet said whether he plans to seek re-election.
The primary election is next May 2 and the general election is Aug. 3.
Candidates cannot pick up petition forms until Nov. 18, but they can go ahead and name their treasurer.
Mr. Derryberry named Ann Wilkins as his treasurer, and Mr. Alverson named Dot Sertel.
Mike Walden, member of the Election Commission and owner of Walden Security, is another name mentioned in the sheriff's race.
In the County Commission District 8 race, John Bailes has named Ed Lusk as his treasurer. Incumbent Curtis Adams has picked up his treasurer's form, but not yet returned it.
In County Commission District 4, Warren Mackey has named former Howard coach Henry Bowles as his treasurer. Incumbent William Cotton is handling his own campaign money.
Commissioner Cotton won a close race over Mr. Mackey, a Chattanooga State professor, in 2002.
It appears that most - or all - of the County Commission members will be seeking re-election.
Fran Dzik, former election administrator, is mentioned as a possible candidate against incumbent Larry Henry.
Other commission incumbents are Bill Hullander, Richard Casavant, Lou Miller, Fred Skillern, Greg Beck and Charlotte Vandergriff.
Criminal Court Judge Doug Meyer is the county official who has said he does not plan to run again. The other two criminal court judges are Steve Bevil, who has been fighting cancer but has returned to the bench, and Rebecca Stern.
Among candidates mentioned for Criminal Court judge are Barry Steelman and Rodney Strong of the district attorney's office and General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon.
Incumbents in General Sessions Court are Judges Moon, Richard Holcomb, Ron Durby, Clarence Shattuck and Mike Carter.
Names mentioned for a race for General Sessions Court judge include prosecutors John Lee and Mary Sullivan Moore and attorneys Leroy Phillips, Robin Flores and Bob Davis.
Other incumbents include County Executive Claude Ramsey, Trustee Carl Levi, County Clerk Bill Knowles, Criminal Court Clerk Gwen Tidwell, Circuit Court Clerk Paula Thompson and Register Pam Hurst.
