Judge Declines To Dismiss Crutchfield Charges posted July 29, 2005 A federal judge in Memphis has declined to dismiss bribery charges against Sen. Ward Crutchfield, D-Chattanooga. Judge Daniel Breen also overruled a Crutchfield motion that the case against him should be tried in Chattanooga rather than Memphis, where the indictments were brought in the Operation Tennessee Waltz FBI sting case. The Crutchfield motion had said that the alleged crimes occurred in East Tennessee, but he was indicted by a Memphis grand jury. The judge said the allegations include meetings by lobbyist Charles Love in Memphis with officials of a bogus E-Cycle firm, then Love giving money to Sen. Crutchfield in Chattanooga. |
