Hot dogs can become cool canines at the second annual Doggie Paddle Pool Party to be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Warner Park Pool. Dogs and their people can make a splash at the canine swim from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Everyone had such a wonderful time at the event last year that they wanted us to have a dog paddle every month,” stated Donna Deweese, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Animal Care Trust who is organizing the event. “We couldn’t comply with the monthly request but we can make it an annual event with the help of Chattanooga Parks and Recreation who has to drain the pool at the end of every season anyway. They just keep the pool cleaned and chlorinated for an extra week for the canine swimmers.”

Goody bags courtesy of PETCO will be distributed while supplies last and stressed pooches can take advantage of a relaxing massage before taking a dip.

"Warner Park has a large pool for big dogs and two smaller wading pools for little dogs so there's an opportunity for dogs of all sizes to take a dip," says Deweese. "But only dogs and their owners will be allowed in the pool."

Participants are asked to follow a few pooch pool party rules including: owners must accompany dogs; only dogs and owners allowed in the pool; dogs must be on leash when outside pool area; owners must clean up after their dogs; dogs must display current rabies tag on collar; and aggressive dogs and people will be asked to leave.

Admission is $5 per dog with their owners admitted free. Proceeds benefit the Animal Care and Adoption Center, a new state-of-the-art comprehensive animal care, adoption, and education facility to be built on Access Road in Hixson.
