Several former students of Mountain Creek Elementary and their families
gathered Saturday afternoon at the Iron Workers Union Hall on Bell
Arbor Avenue just off Amnicola Highway to reminisce about the old days and enjoy a fellowship dinner.

Some recalled former teachers and fellow students, while others
remembered the different families who had lived in the community.

The event was organized by Carolyn Clinton. Among those also attending
was City Councilwoman Linda Bennett, whose district includes Mountain Creek. She said her mother had attended Mountain Creek Elementary.

Others there included Shirley Dowlen, a member of the pioneer Sivley family, and David Bean, the younger brother of City Court Judge Russell Bean.

The former school building, which is currently a ProStorage facility, is located at the foot of the W Road.

John Shearer, who also attended, is currently trying to collect people's memories of growing up in Mountain Creek and hopes to put the information into a book. Anyone with historical information, memories, or old photographs may e-mail them to him or contact him at
jcshearer2@comcast.net.
