A driver traveling too fast for conditions wound up in a ditch at the intersection of Lower River Road and No Pone Valley Road. Early Sunday morning Bradley County Deputy Mario Santos clocked the vehicle on radar at 95 miles-per-hour in a 45 mile-per-hour zone. After attempting to catch up to the vehicle, Deputy Santos discontinued the pursuit because of weather conditions but later found the vehicle ran into a ditch while attempting to turn onto No Pone Road.
Mikel P. Craig, 21, was charged with speeding, reckless driving, felony reckless endangerment, evading arrest and resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search.
Responding Monday morning to a burglary-in-progress call, deputies from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office made two arrests. Both suspects lived in the neighborhood and were charged with cutting the phone line and making forced entry into a residence at 124 Gary Drive.
A neighbor who observed the pair called 9-1-1 and they were taken into custody shortly after the arrival of Deputies Zach Pike and Laura Lane.
The officers reported both had on wet shoes at the time of their arrest. They are identified as Charles L. Williams, 26, and Jimmy R. Price, 31, both of 142 Gary Drive. Both were charged with aggravated burglary.
Two arrests for domestic assault followed an incident where a man said he was attacked by his daughter in-law and son-in-law with a metal fence post. Tashawna M. Mullikin (McCann), 21, and Kevin C. McCann, 20, both of a Second Street address, were booked at the Bradley County jail. The victim was able to defend himself with a baseball bat, but two other people he could not identify also attacked him with garden tools.
Residents of Rodney Drive returned home Sunday from a weekend getaway to find a relative’s car parked in their driveway. Upon further investigation they found him inside the house with the contents of a gun safe. They said he dropped several long guns but fired one round from a pistol as he fled the home. No one was injured.
The homeowner, Jessie Payne, discovered three diamond rings and $5,500 in cash had been taken from the residence. The suspect is currently being sought.
