An eight-year-old boy will appear in Bradley County Juvenile Court after he was charged with aggravated arson over the weekend.
Deputies were called to Lazy Acres Drive on Saturday where minor fire damage in a bedroom had been reported. A report said the boy is accused of setting fire to some drapery material that was being used to cover a sewing machine. The drapes and the sewing machine both received minor damage.
Also over the weekend, deputies investigated the theft of a TV set and video game system from a residence on Asterwood Trail, a TV set and DVD player from Riveria Drive, and a bag of change is missing after entry into a residence on North Mouse Creek Road.
Deputies were called Friday to a home on Cherry Laurel Drive after the homeowner discovered several items had been taken during his absence. His loss includes several guns, a large assortment of jewelry, a laptop computer and a digital camera. The Criminal Investigations Division is continuing the investigation.
A Riceville man attending a livestock auction on Bates Pike found his 2000 Dodge truck missing when he left the sale late Monday night. The vehicle belongs to Travis Letsinger and had license number 62918DD displayed when he drove it to the sale. The truck is valued at $20,000. In the bed was a horse saddle and a chain saw that were also taken in the theft.
An alarm sounded at Super Discount Pharmacy on Springplace Road Sunday night. Deputies responded and found the front door had been forced open. A store official doesn't believe anything was taken.
