Builders Launch Construction of First Habitat House posted September 17, 2005 “We have a large number of our member companies and individuals donating material and labor, as well as money,” said Julian Bell III, HBAST executive officer. “We are completely funding and building the home,” he added. John Lamb, resource manager for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga, said, “This house is being built thanks to the donation of time, services and materials from members of HBAST.” Rojelio Pichardo, owner of Carpentry and Framing, and his crew were on hand to do the framing as construction got under way. Since being formed here in 1986, Habitat has helped more than 175 Chattanooga families enjoy the benefits of homeownership. Habitat’s zero interest loans and homeowner education programs give its partner families a hand up, not a handout. Shepherd Park, off Shepherd Road near the Chattanooga airport, will be the largest multi-home development with 50 homes when completed. |
