Beyond The Headlines Discusses Bankruptcy Oct. 5
posted September 29, 2005

WTCI-TV45/DT 29, the community's public television station, announced the next edition "Beyond the Headlines" will address the new bankruptcy law changes that go into affect on Oct. 17. The live program will air at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

The new bankruptcy law requires more from debtors, including pre-filing consultations with an approved consumer credit counseling service in an attempt to force consumers to pay their debts outside of bankruptcy. Additionally, in order to file bankruptcy, a debtor needs certification from that credit counseling agency.

Tracy Johnson, of Consumer Credit Counseling of Chattanooga, and local attorney Mark Young will discuss the new law changes and answer questions from callers.

"Beyond the Headlines," currently in its 13th season, give local residents that chance to join informative, in-depth discussions of important community issues. Topics for each show are varied with a call-in format allowing viewers to participate in the program with questions and comments on the evening's topic. The show is hosted by Kevin West, news director of WGOW-FM.

"We're pleased that 'Beyond the Headlines' is available to serve as a forum where the public can get information on issues that affect their lives," said Kelly Williams, WTCI vice president of programming and public information. "Viewers should take advantage of this special opportunity and voice their questions and concerns."
