Missing The Music And Earl
posted October 2, 2005

Whatever the content of WDOD's new format, I will miss Earl Freudenberg, his music and the local information he shared with his listeners. Earl respected his listeners on WDOD and appreciated their comments on his talk show. I regret that the management of WDOD saw fit to ignore years of what was working for Chattanooga in exchange for another talk format station.

I have lived in Chattanooga all of my life and have listened to the music of WDOD since I was a child. WDOD was my connection to the past as it was for many others here. The management doesn't get that concept either.

I am sure, as some comments suggest, there will be new listeners to WDOD. However, I am convinced many old listeners, both in age and time listening, will tune out.

It is also somewhat ironic that some who cheer the change have been so viscious in their response to those who oppose the change. Isn't the idea of talk radio, the exchange of ideas and not insults? I hope this is not what the new format will encourage, but it looks like it is.

I for one will be listening to FM or my old radio show tapes and CDs. So long WDOD, I am sorry to see you leave.
