Fire Damages Building At Horizon Stone On Crutchfield Street
posted October 26, 2005

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a commercial fire that damaged a large building on Crutchfield Street Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out at Horizon Stone, LLC, located at 2001 Crutchfield St., shortly after 7 p.m. Six fire companies responded to the scene.

Since the fire was located inside a 25,000 square foot building, Battalion Chief Clay Ingle called for two additional fire companies.

As fire began to break through the roof, Chief Ingle said the firefighters entered the building from two directions and made an interior attack with three hand-held hoselines. Chief Ingle credited their aggressive tactics with saving a good portion of the building.

The fire was finally declared under control shortly after 8:30 p.m.

The fire was been ruled accidental. Captain James Whitmire with the Fire Investigation Division said the fire was most likely started by a heater that was placed too close to combustibles. The dollar loss was estimated at $30,000 for the building and $70,000 for the contents.

No one was reportedly inside the building when the fire was discovered. No injuries were reported.

Horizon Stone makes manufactured stone products.
