Cameron Hill Salvage Benefits Habitat For Humanity posted November 4, 2005 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is donating hundreds of recovered items from the Cameron Hill Apartment Complex to benefit the work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga. This gift, the largest of its kind to the local Habitat chapter, will support the work of building affordable homes for Chattanooga families. These items will be sold at a special sale to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 16–19 at the 201 West Main St. Warehouse in Chattanooga, rather than at Habitat’s Home Store. Calls for information should be directed to Habitat’s office at 756-0507. “This is a great example of how unneeded items can be recycled into the community, while helping build new homes for more families,” said Jan Varnell, Habitat’s Executive Director “We are grateful to BlueCross for this generous donation, and expect that sales of these items will raise more than $25,000. This will help us move closer to our goal of completely funding a house through the Home Store this year. In the future we hope that the Home Store will generate funds for several houses annually.” Opened in 2004, the Home Store is a thrift store, with a twist, said Ms. Varnell. “Our focus is building material, with a few large home goods like appliances and furniture thrown in.” The Home Store has two goals, noted Ms. Varnell. “We make building materials available to the public at bargain prices, while raising funds towards the construction of new homes for our partner families.” Habitat’s Home Store is located at 1201 East Main Street. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday–Saturday. Call 634-1004 for more information or visit www.habichatt.org. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga has built more than 180 simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with Chattanooga families in need since 1986. It is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, based in Americus, Georgia, an ecumenical Christian ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. |
