Good Riddance, WUTC posted January 7, 2006 At the very end of the WUTC story, it was mentioned that the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts would be dropped after the current season and, presumably, NPR Opera as well. I stopped contributing to WUTC a year ago because of the sloppy handling of opera broadcasts (late starts, early cutoffs and interruptions). Today, Jan. 7, the opera started at 1:30 p.m., but WUTC didn"t get around to it until about 1:45 p.m., presumably because the station technician did not know the difference between Met Opera and NPR Opera. This is typical. The station says that the opera receives the lowest listener support. If so, this rant of mine doesn't amount to much, but Chattanooga will not be a better place without opera. As for me, audio streaming and satellite radio are looking good. Adios, WUTC, and good riddance. Wayne Braly Chattanooga bman010@comcast.net |
