Fire Causes Heavy Damage To House In Lupton City
posted January 13, 2006

A house in Lupton City suffered substantial damage in a fire on Thursday night.

The fire department received the alarm at 8:07 p.m. and responded with several fire companies to 40 Whitney St. As firefighters arrived on the scene, Captain Don Bowman said fire was visible from the rear of the one-story house, and smoke was coming from the front.

The fire appears to have started in the basement, but the flames had spread to other parts of the structure, officials said.

The firefighters eventually got the blaze under control, but there was substantial damage to the house. The dollar loss was estimated at around $35,000. The house has been unoccupied in recent months, and was reportedly undergoing renovation. No injuries were reported.

Senior Firefighter Henry McElvain said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
