GPS juniors and seniors are teaming once again to build a house for Habitat for Humanity.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, a large, energetic group of students started the process of building the first of 20 houses to be built in 2006, Habichatt’s 20th year in Chattanooga.

The house in Shepherd Park will be one of 30 at that location when completed. Inclement weather kept the student workers from doing much more than the floor joists on their first day at the site.

Outside and inside walls built at the Habitat warehouse and porch construction are slated for upcoming Saturdays, and the students are looking forward to building alongside the mother and daughter who will live in the home.

The annual GPS fundraiser to cover construction costs is the rose project. GPS parents and grandparents purchase roses for their daughters for Valentines’ Day, and money collected goes toward the Habitat home.
