posted March 8, 2006

WTCI-Channel 45, the community's public television station, will host its Tenth Annual Family Fun Day to be held Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ooltewah High School.

The event will feature a variety of activities for the whole family. Channel 45 will broadcast live from the event.

Kids of all ages and their families are invited to take part in the event and will be able to have their picture taken with three public television guests: Elmo from Sesame Street, Digit from Cyberchase, and Mr. McFeely, the Speedy Delivery Man from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

Activities, including crafts and puppet shows, will be provided by a variety of area organizations. Geoffrey from Toys R Us, Looie the Lookout and three M&M characters will also make appearances throughout the day. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to capture the fun of Family Fun Day.

A $3 donation per person will be taken at the door. All money raised at Family Fun Day goes to benefit the children's programming offered by WTCI.

"We are pleased to be able to provide our community an outreach event that every member of the family can enjoy," said Cindy Lowery, WTCI membership director. "Public television is committed to the education and well-being of families and children."

Families are encouraged to bring a gently used or new sweater for the first Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood Sweater Drive. All sweater collected will be donated to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen and United Way Agencies of Bradley County. Since the kickoff on Feb. 1, over 8,000 sweaters have been collected in the community.

Organizations participating in this year's Family Fun Day include Audobon Acres, M&M/Mars, Toys R Us, Chattanooga Lookouts, Chick-Fil-A on Gunbarrel Road, Creative Discovery Museum, Discovery Toys, Fire It Up!, Hamilton County TENNder Care, James Ward Puppets, Kids on the Block, Mayfield Dairy, Michael's at Hamilton Place, Tennessee Aquarium, Tennessee Valley Railroad, WTCI Ready to Learn and WTCI's Rx for Child Survival Campaign.
