The Fort Oglethorpe city manager has demoted the police chief, Doug Howell.
The demotion to training officer was for an unspecified insubordination, City Manager Jim Dinley said.
The former chief claimed the action came after a Fort Oglethorpe officer gave a speeding ticket to the wife of Mayor Judd Burkhart. He said the mayor called him up and cussed him out about the incident.
Mr. Howell, who was named police chief in 2004, said he plans to appeal the demotion to the Fort Oglethorpe City Council.
