Police said a load of lumber and plumbing pipe worth $100,000 was stolen from a semi-truck on Highway 58.
James Reedy Jr. said he parked the International semi-truck that he drives for McElroy Truck Lines in the parking lot of BI-LO and returned on Sunday to find it missing. Shattered glass was found in the space where the truck had been.
Police found the truck that was left running on the Rossville Boulevard ramp to I-24 eastbound.
The load on the truck belonged to Lowe's Home Improvement Distribution.
Several pieces of electronic equipment that were inside the cab were also taken.
The thieves apparently used a tire iron to break into the truck, then used some device to start it. They cut the wires to the vehicle's tracking system.
The vehicle had been driven 21 miles since the theft.
Billy Swanson of S&H Trucking said two males in a dark-colored early 1980s Chevy pickup with metal rails on the bed were seen driving away with a 140-gallon diesel tank and several pieces of aluminum.
The tank is worth $500 and the aluminum $150.
A resident of Carver Lane said she came home and found someone had broken into her house by cutting a window screen and pushing up the window.
A number of items were stolen by the thieves, who left the back door open.
Someone broke two windows on the second floor of the old Loveman's Building downtown. The windows were broken from inside.
They are valued at $250 each.
Oliver Rogers said someone entered the men's locker room at the Sports Barn downtown and stole $700 cash from his locker. Robert Powderly said someone stole his Timex watch from his locker.
Roger Lee said someone broke into his red Chevy Van on Williams Street.
He said when he came out in the morning he found his personal belongings scattered on the ground by the van. He said he is missing $700 in small bills and change, two cameras, blank checkbooks and his W2s.
A man told police he was dropped off at the emergency room by a guy named Mike in a red Camaro. He said Mike picked him up on Dodds Avenue.
Police said the man had a fracture to his skull that was allowing air into his brain. He was admitted to the intensive care unit at Memorial Hospital.
He told police he did not remember who hit him. Officers said he was aware enough to give two false names because he has two active warrants filed against him.
Police said it is believed that a white male and black male slipped past the front desk and entered the locker room at about the time of the theft.
Police said a woman threw a hammer down a flight of stairs and it struck a man in the face who had allegedly called the woman a lesbian.
Bryon Hale said Shana Baker threw the hammer at him in the incident on Grove Street. He said it caused a small laceration under his left eye.
Several witnesses said they heard the remark about being a lesbian.
The staff at Buck Wild at 409 Market St. said Christopher Davis took a bottle of Jose Cuervo liquor valued at $150 and proceeded to hand out shots of the liquor to other patrons of the establishment.
After the staff became aware of the incident, Davis ran out. Officers saw him run down Fourth Street and try to hide. They said he smelled heavily of an intoxicant and was very unsteady on his feet.
He was charged with theft under $500 and public intoxication.
