Dumas Is Best Choice For District 2 - And Replies
posted April 4, 2006

In my four score years I have developed wisdon to detect the future by past events.

It's my sincere desire to ask everybody in Hamilton County District 2 to please vote for Joe Dumas for county commissioner. He has statesman-type leadership quality and believes in government of the people, by the people and for the people. His leadership abilities will be a role model for others.

Joe Dumas has a special leadership qualilty "factor" while his opponent Casavant, whom I call "Taxavant," only has a political "factor."

"Taxavant" has voted for tax increases even though our property was being reappraised. I have on hand two articles from the Times Free Press, one page F3, March 6, 2005, titled "Emission that target individual taxpayers." "The County Commission voted on the contract." The other article, page B1, Dec. 27, 2005, titled "Emissions testing sparks complaints and County Commissioners approved the emissions testing program."

Joe Dumas will focus on outcomes and less on outputs. He won't play "wheel of fortune" with our tax money. He will earn our respect by being dedicated to all people. He will rely on facts not friends or lobbyists. Joe Dumas has an understanding of the present and a vision of the future.

Joe Dumas will be a triple A and five star county commissioner.

I have to agree with Mr. Schultz's opinion on Joe Dumas. I think he would be an excellent choice for District 2.

He is not in it for the money, he is not interested in the perks, and he only wants what is best for that district.

He would make you proud to have him in a political position because he truly cares and that is rare in today's society.

Please vote for Joe Dumas and make District 2 and Hamilton County a better place.

As a resident of District 2, I am very familiar with Mr. Dumas's views on taxation and education. But like some others in the races for county commission and school board seats, it seems the only issue on which they intend to run is "no more taxes."

Certainly, taxes can be a hot-button issue, but it's time for Mr. Dumas and those of similar political bent to tell voters how they intend to fund schools, provide adequate county services, and represent all of Hamilton County. And let's not trot out that old excuse that every county government agency spends too much and is unaccountable unless you can show voters your data.

We know what and who you don't like. Tell us what you can really do to make things better for Hamilton County.

I have read at least three letters from Greg Williams repeating the same tired mantra. He asks Joe Dumas and other critics what give a plan they have to fix things. Although Joe and others have come up with several suggestions, Mr. Williams seems to have been on another planet and did not get the memo.

Nothing is more important than competence, accountability, and fiscal responsibility. The way to do that is to start with an independent audit of the system to determine where the money is really going. Why are people like Mr. Williams so afraid of that? Also, we don't want useless, unneeded schools built on Signal Mountain or downtown. Mr. Williams and like minded people are selfish and don't care what he needs of the system as a whole, just what developers and private school parents want for Signal Mountain.

As far as competence, let's look at the example of the superientendent search debacle. What business or individual in their right mind would offer someone a job and then start salary negoiations and a background check? Of course, this gives every advantage to the hire not the taxpayer. I will make a prediction, we will end up paying this guy $50,000 more than register plus extra from the "business community" (code word for the PEF) and the new superientendent will be in their pocket from day one. I think that paying the new superientendent this huge amount is a punitive way to punish the public for pushing to get rid of Register. The will say, "See Register was a bargain and now it is the public's fault that we have to pay the new guy more." Typical, cynical power structure politics.

Why don't you give me the "plan" of the people running things now? No, you just critisize the other side. I don't think they really have one except give me more tax money and maybe everything will be alright. What was the "plan" when they built two unneeded downtown schools? What is the "plan" to build an unneeded school on Signal Mountain when Red Bank is already underutilized? These are the kinds of things we point out, but you don't seem to be able to hear.
