Cassie was brought to the Humane Educational Society on May 27, 2004, with three other puppies, said Executive Director of HES Guy Bilyeu. The other puppies were adopted out, but Cassie remained behind.
“Cassie looks like so many other dogs. When you have so many dogs to choose from it’s hard to know just how special of a girl she is,” said Mr. Bilyeu.
However, the staff knew that Cassie was special. “She loved everybody, both people and dogs.” Cassie had the same roommate for most of her two years, but her roommate was adopted a couple of months ago.
Her playful and sweet spirit is what kept her “healthy and happy,” said Mr. Bilyeu, and she was “comfortable in her environment.”
Recently, the staff began to take Cassie to offsite adoption events on Saturdays at PetSmart. Mr. Bilyeu said, “This gave us the opportunity to showcase her.”
Donna Dravland of the Humane Educational Society said Cassie “was always well behaved and quiet at PetSmart. Once Cassie knew you, she would welcome you with smiles and tail wagging. Gone was the timid, scared girl that strangers would see. She was never the kind of dog that would jump up to strangers demanding ‘Look at me! Look at me!,’ but she had her favorite humans and she always made them feel special.”
Last Saturday, Tim Lind was looking at all the dogs up for adoption when he showed an interest in Cassie. Mr. Bilyeu said, “All of my staff persons and volunteers immediately told him all about Cassie. They all spent a lot of time with him to make sure he was the right home, and he fell in love with her.”
When animals are adopted, “we want to make sure it’s a forever home,” he said.
Before Cassie goes to her new home she will be spayed. “We don’t let animals go home immediately after they’re adopted,’’ he said. “They have to be spayed or neutered.”
Ms. Dravland said, “Cassie will have two acres of fenced yard to run and play with her new canine sibling, her “parents” and two human siblings. Her new family recently lost one of their family dogs after 10 years to heart failure and they are looking to add someone to their hearts. Cassie is the special girl that they chose to fill a void in their life and we are sure that the Lind family will fill the void that Cassie has missed in her life.“
