An Hispanic group rallying in downtown Chattanooga denounced City Councilman Manny Rico and one woman said she planned to take out a warrant against him.

Irma Adame, leader of the march, said there was a confrontation with Councilman Rico, whose parents came to Texas from Mexico.

She said he grabbed the arm of her daughter, Christian, and she said the daughter will seek a warrant for assault.

Ms. Adame said, "He grabbed my daughter in a threatening manner. She is going to seek a warrant."

Councilman Rico said he went to the rally at Jefferson Park and told Ms. Adame, "This is wrong what you are doing. Do you realize the backlash that can come from this?"

He denied he grabbed the arm of the daughter in any threatening way.

Councilman Rico said, "What gets me is the arrogance of what they are doing. It is a slap in the face. I tell them if you want to be here, but keep a low profile."

He said some in the group told him, "You ought to be ashamed to call yourself a Mexican."

At the rally, speakers denounced him.

One said, "People like Manny Rico are trying to bring us down. We need people who support us."
