Fire Destroys East Lake Home posted May 30, 2006 No injuries were reported when fire broke out in a rental home in East Lake Tuesday morning. The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 5:31 a.m. and responded to 3907 15th Ave. with several fire companies. Battalion Chief Ben Biggs said flames had already broken through the roof when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. The firefighters eventually got the blaze under control, but the house was considered a total loss. The dollar loss was estimated at around $60,000. James Clingan, 61, was away from home when a neighbor discovered the fire and called 911. Mr. Clingan said he did not have renter's insurance. The Red Cross was called in to provide recovery assistance to Mr. Clingan. The cause of the fire is undetermined. |
