$265,000 Surveillance System Going In At The Waterfront by Suzanne Walker posted May 30, 2006 The City Council's Legal and Legislative Committee approved a resolution to purchase a high tech surveillance system for the Waterfront, where there have been some recent thefts and acts of vandalism. The resolution will go before the entire council next Tuesday. Shelley Parker, attorney for the city Police Department, said the contract would be for $265,000 with In Tech, but the county plans to reimburse half the expenses. Police Chief Steve Parks said the money was appropriated in the operations budget. He said he spoke to officers who patrol this area and they felt this was the best means of security. In Tech was selected because of the firm's “top of the line technology.” Chief Parks said this was the only company that uses fiber optic solutions. The surveillance system will be able to send digital signals to the downtown precinct, but it will not have to be constantly monitored. Councilman Jack Benson said, “I’m glad to see you calling on resources to secure the investments we’ve made.” |
