Brown, Carol Y. Stocker (Jasper)

Carol Y. Stocker Brown, 61, died on Sunday, June 4, 2006, at her home.

She returned to Tennessee six years ago after living in Atlanta for 37 years.

Due to her illness, she retired from driving the school bus after 17 years. She graduated from Whitwell High School in Whitwell, TN, and from the Ray Reed Beauty Academy. She was a professional cosmetologist and operated her own beauty shop, Styles in the Rough, for 38 years.

She loved the Lord and served him as a member of Baptist Hill Baptist Church in Jasper. She served as a delegate at the Baptist Conference. She was a devoted Bible study teacher and led Bible study in her home for many years. She taught Sunday school for many years at Park Place Baptist Church in Snellville, GA. As a member of the building committee, she was instrumental in the construction of the new church.

She was a leader in the Down Syndrome Association for many years and active in the Special Olympics.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Derek Eugene Brown; her mother, Elsie Barth Stocker Rollins; her father, Edward Leon Stocker; her stepfather, Lem Rollins; and her sister, Knoxie Stocker Witt.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Thomas Eugene Brown; her son, Thomas Chadwick "Chad" Brown, nieces, Karen Runyan, Soqyel, CA, Kay Roberts, Chelmsford, MA, Kim Templin, Acworth, GA; close friend of many years, Linda Clark, Hogansville, GA; her aunt, Norma Stoker, Dunlap, TN; five sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; five nieces; four nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews in the Brown family.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday, at Tate Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Webb officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-9 p.m. CDT Tuesday, at Tate Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Baptist Hill Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
