City May Hire Coyote Catcher
posted July 12, 2006

Coyotes are on the prowl in Chattanooga - even in downtown areas, and the city is looking into hiring a coyote catcher.

Steve Leach, city public works administrator, said coyotes are increasingly coming closer and closer to downtown.

He said one was seen at the Hunter Museum.

Mr. Leach said his office has received a number of requests from citizens concerned about the coyotes.

He said there has been no report of a coyote harming a human here, saying they mainly shy away from people.

But he said there have been a number of reports of coyotes eating pets.

Mr. Leach said the city may hire a firm that specializes in catching coyotes and euthanizing them.
