Police Blotter: Woman Too Upset To Talk About Stolen Purse posted July 19, 2006 A woman who had her purse stolen while she was watching a movie at the Bijou Theatre downtown was too upset to tell police about it. Her husband got on the phone and gave the account. He said she laid the purse down in front of her seat and left it there when she got up once. When the movie was over, she learned that her purse was gone. Melissa Spriggs said her car was stolen from her driveway on James Lane. She said previously a window had been knocked out on the 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva. A couple staying at a motel at 1434 Market St. said someone came into their room and stole their wallets. The wallets contained credit cards and $360 cash as well as their Nebraska driver's licenses, the couple said. It happened while they were swimming in the pool. Hotel security said no one used a keycard to get in the room during that time period. An employee of the Foot Locker on Brainerd Road said she saw two black females tear some tags off two multi-colored pullover ladies' shirts, then exit the store with the goods. The clerk chased after the women, who threw the shirts down on the parking lot before speeding off in a blue four-door Chrysler. The clerk said they used a heavy-set black female to block her view of the tag number. A woman living on Mark Twain Circle said as she was pulling the garbage can up her driveway, a black male came from her back yard and stole her purse. Police found that a front window had been knocked out of the house, but nothing was found to be missing. Erika Hudson of Arlington Avenue said a friend, Joseph Bennett, got mad at her for bleaching his clothes in the washing machine. She said he took a bucket of white paint and poured it all over her vehicle. Ms. Hudson said she did not have a problem with the paint on her car because it would wash off. But she said when he also smashed out her windshield, that was going too far. Bennett was charged with vandalism. |
