House, Garage Burn On Willow Street
posted July 21, 2006

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire at 2001 S. Willow St. around 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Capt. Scott Davis with Engine 5 said the garage at that location was engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene. The flames had spread to an unfinished addition to the house, and were extending into living quarters of the home before the firefighters could get the blaze under control.

Battalion Chief Ben Biggs said an unknown citizen broke a window out with his fist before firefighters arrived, presumably to alert the residents inside. No one was home at the time. The citizen was transported by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital, where he was treated for lacerations to his hand and arm.

The fire was brought under control in 15 to 20 minutes. The American Red Cross was called in to provide assistance to the residents, Kenneth and Pamela Anderson.

The loss was estimated at around $30,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
