Summer Trains Are Departing From Grand Junction posted July 25, 2006 The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM) will be offering many rail trip options throughout the summer. TVRM's "standard service" Missionary Ridge Local trains will operate seven days per week with five departures each day from Grand Junction Station at 10:40 a.m., 12:05 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:25 p.m. and 3:35 p.m. This daily schedule will slow down slightly on Aug. 14 when departures scale back to only two on weekdays. The full schedule of five trains on Saturdays and Sundays continues through Thanksgiving. Traveling from Grand Junction to East Chattanooga, the train crosses four bridges and passes through pre-Civil War Missionary Ridge Tunnel. Passengers exit the train in East Chattanooga to watch the locomotive turn on the turntable and visit the railroad restoration shop before riding the train back to Grand Junction. Tickets are sold in the station before departure times. Cost is $13.50 for adults and $7 for children age 3-12. Chickamauga Turn service operates from Chattanooga to Chickamauga on summer Saturdays only. This is a five-hour roundtrip from Grand Junction Station to Chickamauga for a two-hour layover in the historic Civil War town. A Civil War re-enactor will be on board these trains to provide appropriate dialog and comments about historic locations along the route. The "Turn" departs from Grand Junction Station at 10:30 a.m. and returns around 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance or walk-up until departure time. Cost is $31 for adults and $27 for children age 3-12. War Between the States excursion will operate from Chattanooga to the annual Civil War history festival in Chickamauga on Saturday, Sept. 16. An extended four-hour stay in the quaint, historic town allows passengers to enjoy reenactments and other activities throughout the day. Tickets are sold in advance for this special trip. Cost is $32 per ticket. Rails To Wings excursion runs on Saturday, Sept. 25, for a lengthy, 60-mile roundtrip between Chattanooga and LaFayette. This train will travel directly to Barwick-LaFayette Airport for the annual "fly-in" and airplane displays. The route follows ex-Central of Georgia rails from Chattanooga, passing through Rossville, Chickamauga, Rock Spring, and LaFayette enroute to the airport. Tickets are available for advance reservation on this all-day excursion. Cost is $55.
