Homer Bailey Wins Sixth Game For Lookouts

Homer Bailey and two relievers combined on a six-hitter as Chattanooga routed Birmingham, 10-0, on Wednesday at The Hoover Met.

Bailey (6-0) scattered four hits, walked three and struck out four over five innings. Calvin Medlock gave up two hits and two walks while fanning two in three frames, and David Shafer worked a perfect ninth to complete the Lookouts' second shutout this month.

Chattanooga had 12 hits to six hits for Birmingham. Chris Dickerson went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI for Chattanooga. Noochie Varner had a sacrifice fly in the fifth and capped a five-run seventh with a two-run double. Joey Votto went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Votto continues leading the Southern League in hitting at .311; Tennessee's James D'Antona has moved to second batting .310.

The Lookouts remain in third place in the North Division second-half, 2 1/2 games behind the Huntsville Stars.

Chattanooga and Birmingham play again Thursday night. Game time is 8:00 ET.

The Lookouts return to BellSouth Park Friday, August 25th, for their final regular season homestand. Chattanooga plays the Carolina Mudcats (Florida).

Having won the first-half, Chattanooga will host two games in the first round of the Southern League Playoffs, September 7th and 8th. Both games will begin at 7:15 with gates opening at 5:30.
