Kay, Robert Lee, Sr. (Rock Spring)

Robert Lee Kay Sr., 90, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Burney Kay.

He was a member of Peavine Baptist Church and a farmer. He served in World War II in the Army and U.S. Air Force and drove vehicles that transported many officers, including President Dwight D. Eisenhower, to meetings in Europe, and he had some very interesting stories to tell about his military life.

He was also instrumental in building the new Highway 27 and also worked for the Chickamauga and Walker County Telephone Company and the city of LaFayette for many years. He was a very proud, kind and loving father, grandfather and everyone who knew him loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy K. and husband, Rick Coffey, and Trudy K. and husband, Samir; sons, Robert "Bobby" and wife, Marcia Kay, and Rick and wife, Brigitte Kay; brother, Charles Kay; grandchildren, Tim (Summer) Kay, Scott (Amy) Kay, Katrina (Dawson) Hayes and Rich Wilbanks; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday from Wallis Memorial Chapel. Service conducted by the Rev. R.V. Wells, the Rev. Steve Wells, Dr. Stephen Anthony.

Interment will be in Rock Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim, Scott, Rodney, Wilburn Kay, Rich Wilbanks, Dawson Hayes. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy, Richard, Ronald Burney, Richard, Ratmon, Stanley and Benny Kay.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are to be made to Peavine Baptist Church Playground Fund, P.O. Box 40, Rock Spring, GA 30739.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
