Firefighter Injured As Early Morning Fire Destroys House On 14th Avenue
posted October 20, 2006

An early morning fire destroyed a house on 14th Avenue on Friday.

Chattanooga firefighters responded to 3614 14th Ave. shortly after 5 a.m. Captain Lloyd Jones with Engine 9 said one side of the house was engulfed in flames when his company arrived on the scene. Chattanooga firefighters quickly attacked the blaze and Capt. Jones said they were able to get the fire under control in about 10 minutes.

One firefighter was injured when he fell through a hole in a burned-out floor. Firefighter Scott Bailiff reportedly injured a shoulder and was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center. He was expected to be treated and released.

No one was found in the house, which had apparently been vacant for some time. The loss was estimated at around $50,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
