Traffic Stop In Bradley County Yields 15 Pounds Of Crystal Meth
posted October 25, 2006

A couple is facing federal charges after their rental vehicle was stopped on I-75 in Bradley County and almost 16 pounds of crystal ice meth was found in the cargo area.

Pete Resa and Betina Marie Hernandez were arrested in the Oct. 16 stop.

Bradley County Det. Eduardo Choate said he stopped a gold Toyota Four-Runner traveling south without the headlights on in rainy weather.

He said the story the occupants gave him about their trip did not add up, and he asked if he could search the vehicle. He said they denied they had drugs and allowed the search.

The detective said he found that the rear cargo door would not roll down all the way. A contraband buster (density detector) was then used on the door to the cargo area. He said he "immediately noticed a severe change from the left side to the right side indicating a large density behind/inside the cargo door."

Det. Choate said a package wrapped in tape was found inside. A pocket knife was used to cut the tape, and 14 packages were found inside. Each had a pound or more of crystal meth.

Also seized were three cellphones and $3,613 in cash.
