Mary Bell Calloway died on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006.
She was born in LaGrange, Ga., to the late General and Willie Green on May 10, 1922. She moved to Chattanooga early in her life and made Chattanooga her home. Mary loved her family and was always willing to open up her home for family gatherings.
She will be truly missed by her loved ones. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church for many years and later joined Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Harold K. Lester. She was a member of the mother’s ministry and a faithful Sunday school attendee until her health prevented her from attending church.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Calloway Sr.; son, Ralph Calloway; and daughter, Barbara Curry.
Mary is survived by her children, Harold (Claudia) Calloway, William (Margaret) Calloway of Chattanooga; Tyrone (Christola ) Calloway of New Haven, Ct.; grandchildren, Debora Leak, Marshall Curry, Adrian Curry, Felicia Lewis, Twanda Bumbus, Tracey Podakanti, Harold Calloway Jr., William Calloway III, Brandon Calloway, Tarsha Calloway, Wes Calloway, Tyrone Calloway and Toccara Calloway; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lue Helen Stewart, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two brothers, Herbert (Edna) Green and Guy Green; three sisters-in-law, Mary E. Green, Mary R. Green and Sarah Tumblin; two brothers-in-law, Henry Calloway, of Chattanooga and Bobby Calloway, of California; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold K. Lester officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-7 p.m. at the McCallie Avenue Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Directors.
