Hixson outfielder/pitcher Holly Satterfield signed a softball scholarship with Florida International University on Wednesday morning.
"Holly is a very intense player who really wants to play college softball,'' Hixson coach Janet Tate said. "This is something that Holly has worked very hard to accomplish.
"I feel that Florida International is fortunate to get a player of Holly’s caliber and that this university will be a terrific fit for her.''
FIU is located in Miami, Fla., and is coached by Kim Gwydiz. The Golden Panthers play in the Sun Belt Conference.
Satterfield helped lead Hixson to a 34-7 record last year and a second straight District 6-AA regular-season championship. She was voted all-district.
During the 2006 season, Satterfield batted .358 with 22 RBI, four home runs, three triples and five doubles. She also gave up 22 hits in 53 innings pitched with 61 strikeouts. Her record was 10-1 with an ERA of 0.93.
Also an outstanding volleyball player, Satterfield was a team captain in 2006 for the Lady Wildcats. She was voted best offensive player and was selected to the all-district team.
