Temple's Danielle Rector Inks With Mississippi State
First Temple Female Player To Go Division 1
posted November 10, 2006

Tennessee Temple's Danielle Rector, with the whole student body present, signed scholarship papers Friday afternoon to play basketball for Mississippi State.

She becomes the first female Temple player to go Division 1.

Mayor Ron Littlefield was also on hand to congratulate the post player who led the Lady Crusaders to a 23-9 season last year and a trip to sub-state.

She was signed by Rossville native and former UTC Coach Sharon Fanning, who was unable to attend.

Coach Fanning sent a message, saying Rector is "a versatile player who understands the game." She said she likes the fact she can shoot 3s as well as drive the post.

"We expect her to make a difference," Coach Fanning said.

Temple Coach Greg Brown said Rector "is not only a great basketball player, but also is a wonderful young lady."

Her teammate for six years, Angela Kemp, said Rector never mentioned the fact she was getting so much attention from top college coaches.

She said she found out when she was at her house one night and there were calls from three coaches in an hour's time.

Steve Fauer, her speed and strength coach, said she has made remarkable progress and is now a force under the basket.
