Enjoy Autumn in Chattanooga with the following events happening through Nov. 20.

Civil War Historian, Douglas R. Cubbison will be the speaker at the Friends of Moccasin Bend lecture on Monday, November 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Tennessee Aquarium auditorium. Mr. Cubbison is currently Command Historian with the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. He has written comprehensive preservation and interpretation plans for many Civil War sites, including Moccasin Bend. This lecture is free and open to the public. The Chattanooga Zoo suffered a very destructive fire in their Education Building on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Several animals perished, but many more survived and were rescued by zoo staff and the Chattanooga Fire Department. The zoo is now accepting donations of money and/or supplies to support the surviving animals and continue their education programs. Needed are blankets, towels, rabbit cage cedar shavings, reptile bark, reptile sand, plastic critter cages, animal carriers and flashlights. Call 421-1567 for information on how to help.

The Hunter Museum of American Art and Creative Discovery Museum will feature This is Our Land, artwork that depicts the pastimes and natural wonders from children’s books focusing on the fifty states, opening Saturday, Nov. 18. Also on Nov. 18, The Hunter Museum will open Shooting Blind: Photographs by the Visually Impaired, featuring surreal images created by a technique called “painting with light”. Two centuries of questions, debate and speculation surround the pieces in the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera’s upcoming concert “Mozart Requiem.” The performance takes place Nov. 16 and 17 at 8 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre under the direction of maestro Bob Bernhardt. It will feature the CSO Chorus and guest artists Stella Zambalis, Janine Hawley, Nicholas Copollo and Andrew Wentzel. The concert also features two works, Mozart’s Requiem and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B Minor, which were both left or presumably left unfinished by their composers. On Thursday, Nov. 16, Back Inn Cafe will be hosting a wine class entitled "All About the Reds." Learn about the different types of red wine, and discover their unique characteristics, body, and flavor. Find out which ones to use for certain dishes, which ones have a broader appeal, and how to best enjoy each type. Classes start at 6 p.m. and the cost is $30 per person. Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Breakfast With Santa, which will be held in the Grand Ballroom at The Chattanoogan on Saturday, Nov. 25. Enjoy a bountiful breakfast with all the trimmings and a full menu of holiday fun featuring strolling entertainment, Balloons by Mike and a delightful musical show by the famous Singing Santa. Goody bags will be given to each child in attendance. Children may have their picture taken for an additional charge. Photo packages will be made available through Tucker Photography. There will be two breakfast seatings at 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. This year’s Breakfast With Santa is sponsored by CHATTEM.

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre’s stage production of the holiday classic, It’s A Wonderful Life, opens on the Main Stage on Friday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. There will also be a performance on Saturday, Nov. 18. To purchase tickets, call 267-8534 or visit www.theatrecentre.com .

Project Motion Dance Ensemble at the Center for Creative Arts will host the sixth annual Chattanooga Dances! concert on Friday, Nov. 17. Chattanooga Dances! is a showcase of the city's non-profit dance organizations. The concert features Project Motion, Baylor's Verve´, GPS' Terpsichord, Ballet Tennessee, Chattanooga Ballet, and the Chattanooga Dance Collective. Special guest artist Fredrick Davis, a Ballet Tennessee dancer and Center for Creative Arts graduate, will perform. Davis is currently studying in New York at the Joffrey Ballet. The concert is an evening of original choreography featuring contemporary dance including ballet and modern, and begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Creative Arts Auditorium. Project Motion is under the direction of Karen Wilson and Cinnamon Halbert-Smith. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. For more information call 209-5942.

The Cool Wonders Exhibit has returned to the Creative Discovery Museum for the winter season. While visiting, get lost in an icy maze. Then go skiing or try your hand at ice fishing. Then finally, enjoy a cozy cabin, all without leaving the building. Come learn about nature in this winter-y favorite. Be sure to visit the NorthShore area beginning Nov. 17 to vote for your favorite window display. The ballots can be found in a variety of businesses located along Frazier Avenue, Cherokee Boulevard, Tremont Street, River Street and Market Street. You can also enter to win a gift basket filled with goodies. Also beginning on Nov. 17, you will be able to drop off your Toys For Tots at any of these Northshore businesses: The Big Much, Cake Gallery, ClearSpring Yoga, Curves, Frankie and Julian’s, Northshore Sell It Store, River Street Deli, and Steven’s Salon.

Do you ever wonder what is out there on that little island under the Veteran’s Bridge? On Saturday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Outdoor Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Audubon Society will hold a public open house on Maclellan Island. Hop on the Chattanooga Water Taxi for $3 and come out to explore the island’s nature trails and camping areas. If you’re comfortable with the river current, paddle out in your canoe or kayak from either the Ross’ Landing or Coolidge Park boat launches. No motorized boats, please. There will be guides on hand to talk about the natural history and human heritage of the island, as well as hot chocolate and cider to warm you up. Wear clothes suitable for the weather and sturdy walking shoes. Water taxi service will be available from Ross’ Landing and Coolidge Park. The Chattanooga African American Museum is pleased to present “Blues Live: Blues Culture and the Black Experience”. This Blues concert and lecture, held this Sunday, Nov. 19, will explore the history and cultural ethos of the Blues told through song and oratory. This performance will bring attention to the Chattanooga African American’s Museum’s renewed interest in preserving, presenting and perpetuating the Blues, live Blues performance and Blues Education and Scholarship.
