Ten new pieces of public art leased by the city for 18 months are being put into place.

Terry Tomasello, new public art director for Allied Arts, said most of the pieces have arrived.

She said sculptor Chris Fennell of Washington, D.C., will be building one piece on site over the next two weeks. He will use local materials in the work to go near the Tennessee Aquarium.

Two other new works, including the basket of stones known as "Roast Beef," are near the Chattanooga Green and the Pier.

"We are spreading out the public art to more of the Riverfront," Ms. Tomasello said.

One new piece will be in front of the Hunter Museum.

Six others will go along First Street, where the initial 10 pieces were stationed.

All of the works are for sale at the end of the 18 months. Officials said the total worth of the pieces is put at $270,000.

The artists are receiving $5,000 each from the city for the 18-month lease.

Also, the Public Art Committee has chosen the team of Aaron Hussey and Brad Bourgoyne of Baton Rouge, La., to install their artwork in the new Renaissance Park.

The selection committee reviewed 87 proposals from professional artists in 29 states before making the final decision.

That is a $70,000 commission.

Ms. Tomasello said the piece will be located on a section of the park near the Tennessee River.

She said it will represent a bridge depicting weary travelers who have crossed the river at Chattanooga down through history.

Ms. Tomasello replaced Peggy Wood Townsend, who is working with her husband, artist Stan Townsend.

Ms. Tomasello is originally from Atlanta. She worked for the past five years as executive director of the Creative Arts Guild in Dalton, Ga.
