Spring Creek Elementary Wins Anti Litter Contest posted December 7, 2006 Spring Creek Elementary School is the winner of this fall’s Hamilton Shines Anti Litter contest. County Mayor Claude Ramsey and County Commissioner Curtis Adams presented a check for $500 to the winning Spring Creek Elementary school children Thursday morning. Thirteen schools entered the competition. Mrs. Collier’s third grade class at Spring Creek Elementary wrote and performed a series of skits promoting the “Please Don’t Litter” message for the student body and for parents and visitors. They won the contest based on their creativity and the number of people they reached, it was stated. Hardy Elementary and Allen Elementary were chosen as runner ups in the competition with a rap skit and a school-wide pledge respectively. They received a $100 cash prize. Each of the 13 schools who participated will receive a tulip poplar tree to be planted in a county-wide Arbor Day Celebration this March. All cash prizes were provided by the program sponsor, Scenic Cities Beautiful Commission. Hamilton SHINES is one of County Mayor Ramsey’s newest initiatives aimed at reducing the practice of littering through education and enforcement. |
