Highway 58 Area Home Destroyed By Fire
posted December 21, 2006

A home was destroyed by fire in the Highway 58 area Thursday morning.

A neighbor made a 9-1-1 call at 9809 Snow Hill Road. The Highway 58 Bay Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded and arrived on the scene confirming a fully involved house fire. Since no one occupied the house, Highway 58 VFD immediately went to a “defensive attack” to keep the fire from spreading to the “dry” terrain.

According to a neighbor, his son heard a cracking and popping sound coming from behind his home. He looked through his bedroom window and saw the garage was on fire behind his house.

No injuries were reported. Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for potential injuries.

According to the neighbor, the house had been for sale for a while. No one had been living there for at least six months.

The house is a total loss with damages estimated at $385,000.

The fire started in the garage. The cause of the fire will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Highway 58 VFD was assisted by Hamilton County EMS and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
