Steven Markert
Steven Lee Markert,61, born in Atlanta, longtime resident of Chattanooga, died on September 6, 2012 in a local hospital following a heart attack.
Mr. Markert was a 1969 graduate of Tyner High School and a 1973 graduate from Chattanooga State Tech. He retired from Memorial Hospital after 36 years of service as a Radiologic Technologist. He served with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office as a reserve officer in the mid 1970’s. He enjoyed Civil War history, collecting war relics, and was a firearm enthusiast. Mr. Markert was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church, the Chattanooga Rifle Club and the NRA.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Brumley Markert; parents, Ed and Dot Markert, Chattanooga; son, Jason Alan (Stacey J.) Markert Rambo, Chattanooga; daughter, Stacey Leigh (Brett) Markert Rambo Nolan, Chattanooga; sisters, Joy (Rick) Markert Marler, Chattanooga, and Terri (Doug) Markert Baker, Woodstock, GA; stepson, Jonathan Bolden, Lenoir City; stepdaughter, Elizabeth (Keith) Lawhon, Whiteman AFB, MO; grandchildren, Colton and Wyatt Rambo, Lydia Franks, and Kaia Nolan; three stepgrandsons; nieces, Kate (Adam) Marler Duggan, Memphis and Aimee Marler, Chattanooga; nephew, Chase (Ashley) Holder, Canton, GA.
A celebration of life service will be 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Charles McGowan officiating. Interment will follow in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 3-6 p.m.
The family would like to thank the EMTs and the doctors, nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital, especially the ER, Caplab and MICU for their diligent and compassionate efforts to save Mr. Markert.
