Powell Gets 6 Years, 10 Months In Federal Prison On Drug, Gun Charges

  • Saturday, August 24, 2013

Lemel Jerome Powell has been sentenced to serve six years and 10 months in federal prison for crack cocaine and gun charges.

He appeared before Federal Judge Curtis Collier.

On Oct. 5, 2012, John Patterson with the Chattanooga Police Department received information that Powell was selling crack cocaine. Patterson ran a background check and found that Powell was on probation for drug trafficking.

Investigator Patterson and Sgt. Todd Royval went to Powell's home at 113 Goodson Ave. in Red Bank and found him exiting a vehicle along with Ashley Hamilton. They said a large "cookie" of crack was in plain view in the cup holder of the vehicle.

Powell admitted the cocaine was his. He admitted he had a firearm in his residence. In a closet in his bedroom, the officers found a loaded Stallard Arms 9mm semi-automatic pistol. The officers also found drug paraphernalia, including digital scales, in Powell's bedroom.
