Twenty-four Lee University students are getting ready to study abroad in Cambridge, England, for the Spring semester.
The group will depart Cleveland on Monday, January 22, 2001, for a two-month stay in Cambridge where they will travel to various cultural, historic and religious sites. Plays, concerts and interesting lectures add a rich dimension to the lives of the students who participate.
Among the group is one Clevelander, Lauren Murray, daughter of Danny and Debbie Murray.
The other participants in the Cambridge Study Abroad Program include: John P. Briggs of Guatemala City, Guatemala; Brandy Bussell of Lakeland, Fla.; Jessica Carroll of Lebanon, Ohio; Joshua Crowgey of Chesapeake, Va.; Bryan Croyle of Fletcher, N.C.; Rachael DiGiulio of Carol Stream, Ill.; Sarah Field of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Crystal Fleming of Prairie Grove, Ark.; Josh Foote of Lebanon, Ohio; Erin Forston of Cincinnati, Ohio; Beverly Hodges of Rocky Mount, N.C.; Tiffany King of Cartersville, Ga.; Brittany Kist of Elkton, Md.; Stephen LaMagna of Yonkers, N.Y.; Amy Livingston of Charlotte, N.C.; Laura Mahoney of Tucson, Ariz.; Hannah Matis of Brunswick, Maine; Noelle Matthes of Chesapeake, Va.; Aimee Mayeux of Birmingham, Ala.; Micah Morken of St. Cloud, Minn.; Josh Osborne of Dayton, Ohio; Julie Reed of La Madallena, Italy; and Matthew Young of Springboro, Ohio.
During their two-month stay in Cambridge, the group will study Shakespeare and "Les Miserables," visit Windsor Castle and Warwick Castle, tour the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, and attend performances of "Phantom of the Opera," "The Lion King," and "Les Miserables." They will also interact with Shakespearean actors at the Globe Theatre, lunch in Maulding College where "Shadowlands" was filmed, and meet the Mayor of Bath.
This year's supervising professor is Suzanne Hamid, Director of First Year Programs at Lee University. In addition to attending lectures given by Hamid, the students will also attend lectures given by Kim Cannon, Peter Raby, Christine and Brian Paynter, Walter Hooper, and Stephen Bird.
Lee University officials recently received news that the school is ranked in the Top 20 Bachelor's Institutions in regards to the number of students studying abroad. Lee ranked 17th out of the 20 bachelor's institutions with 322 students studying abroad.
