Doris Gass Hardeman, 75, of Rossville, died Monday, March 10, 2003, in a local hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of North Georgia and was a member of the Fort Oglethorpe Church of Christ. Mrs. Hardeman graduated with honors at 16 years of age from Dade County High School, Trenton, Georgia, as the youngest valedictorian. She attended the University of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and West Georgia College, Carrollton, Ga. She taught elementary school for several years in North Georgia, Florida and Nursery School in Chicago, Illinois. Mrs. Hardeman was employed by the Chattanooga Public Schools for ten years as a library clerk and nine years as a bookkeeper before retiring in 1990. After retiring she worked part time for five years as a secretary/bookkeeper at Anderson Machine Company in Chattanooga. She loved to be a teacher, the children she taught, and her cat, Tiny.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wiley T. Gass, mother, Carrie O’Neal Gass, and husband, Lucien Hardeman.
Survivors are daughters, Angela Moreland Hackney and son-in-law, Earl Hackney, Rossville, Diane Measor, Atlanta; grandchildren, Eric Kennedy, Jamie Kennedy, Bridgette Hackney Beene, John Hackney; great-grandchildren, Haley Kennedy, Destiny Beene, Erin Kennedy, and Collin Hackney.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Minister C. G. Griffith officiating.
Interment in Payne Cemetery, Trenton, Ga. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
