Clarence Galisby Poteet, 88, of Chickamauga, died on Monday, July 14, 2003, at a local health care facility.
Mr. Poteet was one of the first business to be in operation on Rossville Blvd. when it had the trolley tracks. He was the owner/operator of Poteet Body Shop which was established in 1942 on Rossville Blvd. He then went on to be the owner of Poteet Truck Company, Poteet Glass Co., and Poteet Battery Co. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Brookshire Poteet; parents, Asbary and Ida Evitt Poteet; brothers, Frank and Harvey Poteet; half-brother, Arthur Poteet; sisters, Mattie Lee Brockman, Elizabeth Dempsey, and Eva Ruth Stout.
Survivors include his sons, Tommy Poteet of Ringgold, Lowell Poteet of Chickamauga, and Randy Poteet of Bluefield, Nicaragua; daughters, Wanda Poteet Reynolds of Ringgold, Geraldine Poteet Stokes of Harrison, Tn., and Denna Poteet Byrd of Chickamauga; step-daughters, Barbara Hammill and Faye Miles, both of Rossville; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Steve Ferguson and Rev. Joe Dodd officiating.
Interment will follow in the Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, Rossville.
