Daugherty, Gay Nell Duke

Gay Nell Duke Daugherty, 77, of Cleveland, TN, died on Saturday, December 11, 2004 in a local hospital.

A native of Clay County, AL, she had spent most of her life in Delta and Anniston, AL before moving to Cleveland three years ago.

Mrs. Daugherty was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for many years and was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Cecil Franklin Daugherty; daughter, Martha Nell Daugherty; grandson, Thurston Lamar Messer; two great-grandchildren, and three brothers.

She is survived by her children, Essie Gay Gazaway, Hogansville, GA, James Franklin Daugherty, Fairfax, VA, Sarah Jean Williams, Columbus, GA, and Violet Inez Shelton Jones, Cleveland, TN; sisters, Ola Mae Bolt, Delta, AL, Imogene Hill, Anniston, AL; brother, Rev. James Wilburn Duke, Lineville, AL; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:00 noon CST at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Delta, AL with Rev. Norris Brooks officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon CST at the church.
