Widow Of H. Clay Evans Johnson Active In Charitable Work

Gene Beasley Johnson, 83, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 after a long illness at her home on Lookout Mountain, Tn.

She was the daughter of Virginia Taylor Beasley and George Holland Beasley. She was educated at the Ward Belmont School in Nashville. She was active in numerous charitable and civic organizations and was a member of the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, Belle Meade Country Club, Memphis Country Club, Lookout Mountain Golf Club and the Fairyland Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clay Evans Johnson.

Survivors are her children, William James Cochrane, Holland Cochrane, Armistead and Kate Wilson Grayken; granddaughters, Ashby Parrish Webber of Marietta, Ga., and Mary Shannon Parrish of Boston, Ma.; stepchildren, Margaret Heiskell Carter, Ruth Heiskell Summers and Barbara Heiskell Mills, all of Memphis, and Betty Johnson Patton and Henry Clay Evans Johnson Jr. of Chattanooga.

Her stepdaughter, Barbara Johnson Prickett, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, 316 N. Bragg Ave., followed by a graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Those wishing to remember Mrs. Johnson may contribute to blindness prevention organizations or the charity of your choice.
